The She Cranes have intensified their preparations for the upcoming Africa Netball Cup scheduled for September 19–26 in Nairobi, Kenya.
A 14-player squad is currently pitch-camp in a residential training session at the Allen VR Arena in Nakirebe to sharpen their skills ahead of the continental showpiece.
Reflecting on the team’s recent performance at the Commonwealth Games, She Cranes head coach Rashid Mubiru identified player endurance as a critical area requiring immediate improvement.
“My biggest observation at the Commonwealth Games was that players would perform exceptionally well in the first two quarters but lose momentum in the third due to a lack of endurance,” Mubiru told Vision Sport.
“Although they often regained composure in the fourth quarter, the damage had already been done. Our goal now is to maintain high-intensity play across all four quarters, and we have been working extensively on boosting fitness levels.”
To enhance tactical flexibility and maintain high energy levels throughout matches, the coaching staff has reinforced the squad with seven additions: Evelyn Ayitesi, Annet Namuddu, Sheilah Nayibanda, Carol Abalo, Christine Namulumba, Joan Nantumbwe, and Nassim Khadala.
“The new additions are vital because we require fit, high-quality players who can seamlessly cover multiple positions,” Mubiru explained. “Strengthening squad depth ensures we have strong options and strategic versatility on the court.”
The Nairobi tournament doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 Netball World Cup. The top two nations will earn qualification spots alongside Uganda and South Africa, both of whom have already secured automatic qualification.
