'MJ The Michael Jackson Musical' to make Singapore debut in August 2027

The four-time Tony Award-winning MJ The Michael Jackson Musical is set to make its Singapore debut with a limited season at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands from August 2027. The production arrives as part of its international Asian tour, following runs on Broadway, London’s West End, Hamburg, the United States, and Australia. Set in 1992, the musical takes audiences behind the scenes of the creation of Michael Jackson’s Dangerous World Tour. Told partly through the perspective of an MTV journalist given access to the rehearsal room, the production explores the creative process behind the tour while revisiting pivotal moments in Jackson’s career. More than 25 of Michael Jackson’s hits are featured in the show, including 'Beat It', 'Smooth Criminal', 'Man in the Mirror', and 'Thriller'. The Singapore run also marks a return of sorts for Jackson’s music to the city, where he performed two sold-out concerts during the Dangerous World Tour in 1993. MJ The Michael Jackson Musical features a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, with Christopher Wheeldon OBE serving as director and choreographer. Wheeldon won the Tony Award for Best Choreography for his work on the production, which has picked up four Tony Awards in total.
