Ebola now claims 3,400 lives in DR Congo with 7000 cases reported
A total of 62 out of the 167 health zones across 7 provinces in DR Congo have so far been affected with Ebola at the rate of 37.1 percent.

Ebola Death toll figure in DR Congo now goes beyond the 3,400 victims as the outbreak reaches Seventh province.
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Presidential Ebola Task Force is reporting over 80 newly confirmed cases and 31 community deaths in the past few hours.
The current breakdown on the new Ebola cases reveals Ituri (30), North Kivu (43), Haut-Uélé (6) and South Ubangi where one fatality case was recorded.
The new single case at South Ubangi was via Bulu health zone, after a 23-year-old man who left South Kivu on July 10 tested positive and unfortunately also died.
So far, there are 7,022 total confirmed Ebola cases.
Death toll figures indicate that Ebola has claimed 3,398 lives and counting.
The fatality rate of the disease is clocking at 48.4 percent and also scaling up.
A total of 62 out of the 167 health zones across 7 provinces have been affected at the rate of 37.1 percent.
Ituri alone accounts for nearly 79 percent of all Ebola cases in DR Congo.
Earlier reports had revealed that Ebola reached Schools in Bunia where 4 Cases were Confirmed, with one being Fatal
Ebola has been confirmed in two schools in Bunia, Ituri province; four students infected, one dead.
The Ebenezer School Complex reported 3 cases (two second-graders, one deceased, plus an 8th-grader); a 4th case was confirmed at Maranatha Primary School.
Authorities are however keeping local schools open.
Health teams are now monitoring contacts and reinforcing hygiene protocols on-site.
“Schools remain open and activities continue. Prevention and hygiene measures are being reinforced,” said Yvon Abwasey Mouke, director of Ituri 1 educational province.
Ebola infections were also said to be soaring in Ituri where 167 Deaths got recorded in One Month sounding Alarm in Mungamba.
A total of 167 Ebola-related deaths were recorded in just one month in Mungamba, a community of over 25,000 people in Irumu territory, Ituri province.
Military administrator Col. Jean Siro Simba confirms that the Ebola threat even surpasses that of the ADF terrorists.
“We must fight it immediately and not tomorrow.”
He also condemned attacks on response teams saying the culprits must be arrested and thrown in prison.
Ituri remains the epicenter of DR Congo’s wider Ebola outbreak, which has claimed thousands of lives since May.
