Lambeth Council has confirmed that the by-election in Myatt’s Fields will take place on Thursday 8th October, following the death of much-loved Labour councillor Annie Gallop who represented the ward for over a decade.
Lambeth Greens were the first party to select a candidate last week, announcing former Cabinet Member for Equalities and Culture, Sonia Winifred to stand in the ward.
Winifred a well-known campaigning figure in the borough crossed from Labour to the Greens after being suspended for refusing to vote against a motion calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The result could prove significant, with the Greens currently holding 28 of the council’s 63 seats, with Labour on 25 and the Lib Dems on 9.

TUSC and Lambeth Labour have not yet announced a candiate, and have not responded to Brixton Buzz as this article goes live.
A spokesperson for Shake it Up the campaign team that grew from street homelessness protests across the borough have said it is unlikely they will stand a candidate, but the final decision has not yet been made.
