By Zoila Palma: Bus contractors in Southern and Western Belize have gone on strike this morning following delays in payments by the Ministry of Finance.
Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton says that this situation is unacceptable.
“School bus drivers contracted by the Ministry of Education have reportedly gone unpaid for three weeks.
These drivers provide an essential public service by transporting our children safely to and from school. Yet they have been forced to strike simply to receive money they have already earned,” Panton said.
Panton said that the bus contractors have families to support, fuel to purchase, vehicles to maintain and bills to pay.
“Neither Bus Operators or students and their families should be placed in such an unnecessary predicament. The math is not mathing.
Belize @45, let us get it together,” Panton stated.
