By Zoila Palma: On Sunday, September 13, 2026, community members gathered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church in Benque Viejo del Carmen for the National Day of Prayer, bringing together Belizeans in solemn devotion during the September celebrations.
The prayer service was hosted by the Benque Viejo House of Culture and held at the historic Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
The service was attended by prominent government officials, including Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam and Prime Minister John Briceño, who joined the congregation in collective prayer for the nation.
The National Day of Prayer provided an opportunity for people from across the community to pause from the Independence celebrations and reflect on Belize’s future, while reaffirming the importance of faith, unity and peace as the country marks another year of independence.
