MTN South Sudan Launches Rumbek ICT Hub to Boost Digital Skills and Innovation

MTN South Sudan  has launched the Rumbek ICT Hub in Lakes State, a digital learning and innovation centre aimed at equipping young people with digital skills, knowledge and opportunities to participate in the digital economy.

The facility was officially launched in Rumbek Town on 8 September 2026, with representatives from the Lakes State Government, educational institutions, community leaders, development partners, youth organisations and the media attending the ceremony.

The ICT Hub forms part of MTN South Sudan’s efforts to advance digital inclusion, support education and expand access to technology. It will provide digital learning resources, ICT training, innovation opportunities and capacity-building programmes for young people.

Speaking at the launch, MTN South Sudan CEO Madam Mapula Bodibe highlighted the importance of investing in young people and creating pathways for digital empowerment.

By providing access to technology and digital skills, we are investing in the future of the youth of Lakes State and helping to build a generation capable of driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and socio-economic development. Through this ICT Hub, we are creating a space where knowledge can be exchanged, talents can be nurtured, and future innovators can be empowered to shape the development of Lakes State and South Sudan as a whole.”

The National Minister of Information Communication Technology and Postal Services, Honourable Areny Wek Areny, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to youth development and digital transformation.

We want to create spaces where our young people can access technology, develop digital and artificial intelligence skills, and become active participants in the digital economy. The Rumbek ICT Hub is expected to serve students, young entrepreneurs, job seekers and other community members by providing a collaborative environment for learning, skills development and the creation of innovative solutions to local challenges.

MTN South Sudan said the initiative reflects its wider ambition to ensure that communities are not left behind in the digital transformation journey. The company also said the hub reinforces its commitment to supporting national development through community-focused investments.
