By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Leo Bradley Library is offering free school books to the public as families begin preparing for the upcoming school year.

In a social media post, the library announced a “Free School Books Giveaway” and invited residents to visit the library to collect available books. Photos shared by the library show a wide range of primary, secondary and CSEC-level textbooks placed on tables with signs marked “Free Books.”

Among the books visible in the photos are Oxford Mathematics for the Caribbean – Book 1, likely used for Form 1 mathematics; Oxford Mathematics for the Caribbean – CSEC, used by upper secondary students preparing for CSEC; Principles of Business for CSEC, used by Forms 4 and 5 business students; Achieve! 3, an English A text listed for Form 3; Active Science 3, a lower-secondary integrated science text; Secondary Social Sciences 2 for Trinidad and Tobago, a lower-secondary social studies text; Collins Student Atlas for the Caribbean, which is designed for CSEC Geography students; Living Together, a Belizean primary social studies series; and A History of Belize: A Nation in the Making, a Belizean history textbook.

The giveaway is especially timely as school textbooks can represent a major cost for families. Local school book listings show some primary-level books costing around $17.50 to $32.50, while secondary and CSEC texts can cost much more, including CSEC-related books listed at $67 to $99 or higher.

The Leo Bradley Library, located on Princess Margaret Drive in Belize City, serves both adults and children through reference, lending, serials, internet café, audio-visual and public event services. The library is also the headquarters of the Belize National Library Service and Information System and is named in honour of Leo H. Bradley Sr., a former Chief Librarian, writer, historian and key figure in the establishment of Belize’s National Archives.

For parents and students, the initiative offers more than just free books. It provides relief from back-to-school expenses and gives students access to materials that can support classroom learning, exam preparation and independent study.
