By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two women have been charged following a confrontation with police officers on Barrier Reef Drive in San Pedro Town on Thursday night.
According to police information, officers were conducting mobile patrol at around 10:00 p.m. when they stopped near Isla Ceviche to conduct a business check.
While the police vehicle was parked, officers reportedly heard a screeching sound and noticed that a bicycle being carried by another vehicle had made contact with the right rear view mirror of the police mobile.
Police approached the driver and requested his licence before informing him that he would be detained for traffic offences.
During the interaction, police allege that a woman standing nearby began recording the incident and directed insulting words in Spanish toward a female police corporal.
Police subsequently attempted to detain the woman for using insulting words.
According to investigators, a second woman then intervened, allegedly grabbing the first woman and preventing officers from escorting her to the San Pedro Police Station.
Police say the confrontation continued at the station, where the second woman allegedly pushed the corporal and grabbed the front of her uniform during a struggle.
On Friday, police formally arrested and charged 30 year old Aleida Michell Trujillo with aggravated assault and obstructing a police officer.
Antonia Bardales Carcamo, 48, was charged with using insulting words.
Both women reportedly chose to remain silent after being cautioned.
