‘Regaining strength each day’: Mashatile gives update on recovery

Cape Town – Deputy President Paul Mashatile says he is recovering well after undergoing a minor medical procedure and will continue resting on the advice of his doctors. 

Mashatile provided the update on Tuesday, saying he was regaining strength each day as he recuperates. 

“Fellow South Africans, as many of you know, I recently underwent a minor medical procedure. I am pleased to share that my recovery is progressing well, and I am regaining strength each day,” Mashatile said. 

He said his doctors had advised him to continue resting while responsibilities in his office remained underway. 

“On the advice of my doctors, I will continue resting until advised otherwise,” he said. 

Mashatile temporarily stepped back from his normal duties while recovering after undergoing the procedure. His office has continued to handle delegated responsibilities in consultation with other government and external stakeholders. 

He thanked his family, medical team, colleagues in government and the ANC, as well as President Cyril Ramaphosa and South Africans who sent messages of support. 

“Your prayers and encouragement have been a source of strength,” Mashatile said. 

The deputy president said he remained committed to his responsibilities and looked forward to returning to work fully. 

“I assure you that I remain dedicated to the responsibilities entrusted to me, and I look forward to returning to my duties in full, serving our nation with renewed energy and commitment,” he said. 

Mashatile’s latest update follows confirmation from government that he had been admitted for a minor surgical procedure and observation before being discharged. 

The Presidency previously said Ramaphosa was pleased with Mashatile’s recovery following the procedure.
