Man arrested in fatal hit-and-run collision in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK RCMP are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on Saturday, September 19 at approximately 6 p.m. at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Woodbine Street.

An 80-year-old female cyclist suffered critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigative efforts led to the identification of a suspect vehicle, which has since been located and seized. An adult male driver was arrested and later released pending further investigation.

The Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) attended and processed the scene. Investigators will continue to work closely with ICARS and the BC Coroners Service as they advance the investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone with CCTV or dash camera footage of a burgundy/red 2021 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab truck in the areas of Portage Avenue, Woodbine Street, Hazel Street, Menzies Street, and Yale Road around the time of the collision to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 and quote file number 2026-42122.
