Jill Scott’s South African Tour Finale Canceled Weeks Before Shows

Jill Scott's South African tour finale was canceled, with refunds promised for both November shows and no new dates announced.

Jill Scott’s South African Tour Finale Canceled Weeks Before Shows

Jill Scott‘s fans in South Africa will get their money back instead of the two shows set to close her world tour.

Showtime Management called off both dates on October 19, with less than three weeks to go before the first show. The firm cited “unforeseen circumstances” but did not say what went wrong.

Scott had been due at SunBet Arena in Pretoria on November 7. The next stop was Grand Arena, GrandWest, in Cape Town on November 11. Ticketmaster has marked both shows as canceled and stopped sales.

Fans will not need to file a claim to get all of their money back. The money will go back to the account used to buy the tickets. The Citizen said that could take five to 10 business days.

Those whose old card or bank details no longer work should watch for an email from the ticket seller with the next steps. The firm will also send buyers updates on their refunds.

There is no new date on the books yet, though Scott’s team has not ruled out a return.

“Jill and her team are exploring the possibility of returning to South Africa at a future date,” Showtime said in a statement, as quoted by TimesLIVE.

The lost dates were meant to cap a tour that spanned much more than those two cities. Scott and Live Nation Urban first announced a tour through the U.S., Europe, the U.K. and South Africa in March. GrandWest billed Cape Town as the last stop.

The “To Whom This May Concern World Tour” took its name from Scott’s sixth album, her first in more than ten years. Her plan for the shows put a live band at the heart of each night, with sets shaped for each city and a mix of soul, jazz and spoken word.

She last played South Africa at the DStv Delicious Festival two years ago. This time, fans had been promised two shows of her own.

Scott moved four Texas shows to new dates in September after she tested positive for COVID-19 in August. The new statement gave no link to that illness. It also gave no date for her next South African show.
