Charles Carr remanded after allegedly holding baby mother hostage at gunpoint and assaulting her

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 23-year-old Belize City man employed as a technician at Belize Water Services has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being charged with aggravated assault with a firearm following allegations made by his ex-girlfriend.

Charles Carr appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. He was remanded until November 3, 2026.

The charge stems from an alleged incident at a residence on Electric Avenue on August 28.

According to the police report, Carr’s 22-year-old ex-common-law partner visited the residence with their three-year-old daughter so Carr could spend time with the child.

The woman alleged that when she told Carr she was ready to leave, he became upset and told her she would not be allowed to leave until she had sex with him “one last time.”

She further alleged that Carr locked the front door, kept the key and later pointed a firearm at her after she began packing her child’s belongings.

The woman told police that she feared for her life and asked Carr to put the firearm down, but alleged that he refused and struck her several times to the forehead.

She reportedly managed to knock the firearm from his hand and kick it toward a couch, but said Carr retrieved it. She further alleged that he later removed the magazine, causing a bullet to fall to the floor.

The woman told police she continued asking to be allowed to leave but Carr refused. She eventually managed to send text messages to an aunt asking for help, and police arrived at the residence about 15 minutes later.

Following her report, Carr was arrested and charged.

During his arraignment, Carr reportedly told the court that the complainant was outside the building and intended to withdraw the charge. The court did not entertain a withdrawal at that stage.

Because the charge involves an alleged firearm offence, the Magistrate’s Court did not grant Carr bail, and he was remanded to prison pending his next court appearance.
