Anthony Mackie is trading his Captain America shield for an FBI badge, but don’t expect him to be saving the day in the traditional superhero sense. Apple TV has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming crime thriller 12 12 12, starring Mackie and Jamie Dornan in a high-stakes battle of wits that promises plenty of deception, suspense, and one seriously ambitious heist.
The eight-episode series premieres globally on Friday, November 13, 2026, with its first two episodes, followed by weekly installments through December 25. And judging by its intriguing premise, this might be one holiday season where the biggest gift is finding out who makes it out of the vault alive.
12 Months. 12 Hours. 12 Days. One Epic Heist.
What makes 12 12 12 particularly interesting is its unconventional storytelling structure. Rather than following a straightforward chronological narrative, each episode unfolds across three interconnected timelines: the 12 months spent planning a heist, the 12 hours during which the crime takes place, and the 12 days following its aftermath.
At the center of the story is a disgraced FBI agent, played by Mackie, and an American career criminal, portrayed by Dornan. The two find themselves locked in a relentless game of cat and mouse across Europe, with neither willing to concede defeat.
Their collision course leads to an audacious raid on a bank vault buried deep beneath the streets of Zurich, Switzerland. But as any good heist enthusiast knows, getting into the vault is only half the battle. It’s what happens before and after the money disappears that often makes things truly complicated.
The three-timeline structure offers plenty of opportunities for unexpected revelations, shifting allegiances, and those delicious moments when viewers realize that something they thought they understood was never quite what it seemed.
Think Ocean’s Eleven meets Money Heist, with a dash of the psychological tension that comes from watching two formidable opponents attempt to outmaneuver one another.
Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan Bring Star Power to the Crime Thriller
For Marvel fans, Mackie’s involvement is reason enough to pay attention. Best known for portraying Sam Wilson, the MCU’s current Captain America, Mackie has demonstrated his range across action, drama, and science fiction, including his work in Altered Carbon and Twisted Metal.
Playing a disgraced FBI agent offers a different kind of challenge, one that could allow Mackie to explore a morally complicated character whose motivations aren’t necessarily as heroic as the characters audiences have come to associate with him.
Meanwhile, Dornan, known for Belfast, The Fall, and the Fifty Shades franchise, brings his own experience portraying psychologically complex characters. His role as a career criminal sets the stage for a potentially compelling rivalry with Mackie’s federal agent.
And with both actors serving as executive producers, they’re doing more than stepping in front of the camera. They’re helping shape the creative direction of the series.
The supporting ensemble includes Jack Kesy, Agathe Rousselle, Sallie Harmsen, José Garcia, and Emmy-nominated actress Kali Reis.
Reis is an especially exciting addition to the cast. The former professional boxer earned widespread acclaim for her performance as Detective Evangeline Navarro in HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, proving she can more than hold her own in gritty, atmospheric crime dramas. Her involvement adds another compelling reason to keep this series on your radar.
A Talented Creative Team Behind the Heist
12 12 12 comes from creators and executive producers Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble, with Emmy-nominated, BAFTA-winning filmmaker Kari Skogland directing multiple episodes, including the pilot.
Skogland is no stranger to delivering action-packed storytelling with political intrigue and complicated characters. Marvel fans will recognize her as the director of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which featured Mackie’s Sam Wilson stepping into the mantle of Captain America.
That reunion is particularly noteworthy, especially considering how Skogland previously explored themes of loyalty, institutional power, and personal identity through Mackie’s character in the Marvel series.
Mackie executive produces under his Make It With Gravy production banner. Additional executive producers include Samantha Corbin-Miller, David Knoller, and Jason Spire for Inspire Entertainment.
The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content.
Will ’12 12 12′ Be Apple TV’s Next Must-Watch Thriller?
Apple TV has built a reputation for delivering ambitious, character-driven dramas, from the mind-bending mysteries of Severance to the tense storytelling of its growing slate of original thrillers.
With 12 12 12, the streaming platform appears to be leaning into the appeal of an elaborate heist narrative while giving it a structural twist that could distinguish it from the usual cops-and-robbers formula.
There’s something undeniably entertaining about watching a meticulously planned crime unravel, especially when the people involved are just as dangerous as the scheme itself. Add Mackie and Dornan to the equation, and there’s plenty of potential for a series filled with psychological warfare, questionable loyalties, and explosive confrontations.
Of course, the real test will be whether the show’s three timelines can sustain the suspense across eight episodes without giving away too many secrets too soon.
But with a stacked ensemble, a director who knows her way around high-stakes action, and a premise built around the ultimate criminal chess match, 12 12 12 has the ingredients for an addictive end-of-year binge.
The first two episodes of 12 12 12 premiere November 13, 2026, exclusively on Apple TV, with new episodes arriving every Friday through December 25.
