UDP Leader Tracy Panton downplays high profile resignations, says Thimbriel and Wallace remain part of rebuilding effort

By Breaking Belize News Staff: UDP Leader Tracy Taegar-Panton says the recent resignations of Juliet Thimbriel and Audrey Wallace from senior party positions should not be interpreted as a split within the Opposition.

Panton confirmed Wednesday that Thimbriel stepped aside as National Campaign Manager while Wallace relinquished her role as chair of the UDP’s Public Relations Committee. She said both cited personal and professional reasons that prevented them from continuing in those substantive positions.

Panton stressed, however, that both women remain members of the UDP and continue working closely with the leadership team. She specifically said Thimbriel continues investigative and political work through Wave Radio and Television.

7News reported Tuesday that Thimbriel and Wallace had resigned within roughly two weeks of each other ahead of the March 2027 municipal elections. The report cited sources suggesting candidate-vetting disagreements in Thimbriel’s case and party advertising finances in Wallace’s case. Those accounts were not confirmed by Panton, who attributed the departures to personal and professional circumstances. (7 News Belize)

Asked whether the party has sufficient financing for municipal campaigns, Panton dismissed continuing speculation about the UDP’s finances and insisted the party would field slates and compete in the March 2027 elections.
