Victoria’s Secret Sauce? Premier Carroll Reveals the Real Ingredient Behind the State’s Success

Victoria’s multicultural communities were celebrated at the Premier’s Multicultural Gala Dinner, held under this year’s theme, “Stories of Us.” The event brought together community representatives, government leaders and others from across Victoria to recognise the diverse cultures, histories and experiences that contribute to the state’s identity.

The theme reflected the many stories that make up contemporary Victoria, highlighting the experiences of people from different cultural backgrounds and the contributions they make to their communities and to the wider state.

The evening featured representatives from across the political spectrum, including Premier Ben Carroll, Minister for Multicultural Affairs Paul Edbrooke, Opposition Leader Jess Wilson and Shadow Minister for Sport Brad Battin. Their presence reflected the broad significance of multicultural affairs across Victoria’s political and civic landscape.

At the 2026 Premier’s Multicultural Gala Dinner, Victorian Premier Ben Carroll stated, “Victoria’s secret sauce is our diversity.”

Victorian Multicultural Commission Chairperson Louise Perry was also among those attending. The Commission plays an important role in supporting multicultural communities and promoting inclusion, participation and social cohesion across the state.

For community organisations, the gala provided an opportunity to recognise the importance of cultural diversity and the contribution of people from multicultural backgrounds. It also created a space for community leaders and government representatives to come together around shared issues and aspirations.

NextGen Unite President Chuol said the event was valuable because it provided an opportunity for multicultural communities to be recognised and their experiences to be heard. “Events like this are important because they remind us of the value of every community and the different stories that contribute to Victoria,” he said.

The evening reinforced the importance of cooperation between government, community organisations and the broader community in strengthening social cohesion. It also highlighted the role of cultural recognition and participation in building a more inclusive society.

The Premier’s Multicultural Gala Dinner ultimately provided an opportunity to celebrate Victoria’s diversity and acknowledge the many cultures, experiences and stories that form part of the state’s shared identity.
