Two Cleveland-based faith leaders have the internet buzzing over a relationship arrangement that has some people shouting “Amen!” and others flipping through their Bibles at record speed. On Oct. 25, a video featuring Pastor Israel Ford of LifeWorks Church and his wife, Pastor Lydia Ford, went viral after Lydia announced to their congregation that they are now in a polygynous marriage.
In the viral clip, Lydia introduced the couple’s second wife, Minister Shakayla Ford, who was already a member of the church. Talk about a plot twist nobody saw coming during Sunday service.

“Y’all know her, y’all love her, y’all benefit from her ministry every week… [It’s] a pleasure of mine to introduce to y’all, prophet’s wife, and my sister in marriage, Minister Shakayla,” Lydia said proudly as the congregation erupted in applause, while some attendees appeared to gasp in shock.

Minister Shakayla then joined the married couple onstage and addressed the congregation with a lighthearted, “Cat’s out the bag,” before thanking everyone for their support and understanding.
“I want to speak to the fact that I know people have questions, people have comments and concerns. And one thing that you know I want to address is that it is amazing to know that this is the will of God and to live it,” she continued.
Shakayla went on to explain that although she and the Fords are in a polygynous marriage, respect and faith remain at the center of their union.
“I have not been slighted not one bit and I have gained so much. I mean, I have gained so much and I’ve learned so much from pastor. I mean, he’s poured so much into into me, into our family. And we are a family. We don’t walk around like individuals fighting and beefing, but it is a family dynamic in the image of what God wants to put in the earth.”
After thanking the audience for their support, Minister Shakayla added, “And there are people who have known for some time. And I just want to say thank y’all for supporting us, for loving us, for praying for us, for fighting for us, for warring with us. I mean, it has been a journey. And though it has been a learning experience.”
