Miyagi, Olipa to feature in National Premier League T20 Blast in Zimbabwe

Gerald Olipa and Juma Miyaji have been selected to feature in the National Premier League T20 Blast.

The two players will leave Uganda tomorrow and stay with their respective teams till the Qualifiers in Nigeria, which will run from October 16 to 26.

Olipa made his debut for the Cricket Cranes this year during the series in Namibia, and since then he has taken to international cricket like a duck to water. His stock has been rising since, and in an underwhelming final round of the Challenge League B in Tanzania, he was one of the bright stars.

He followed it up with the best batter accolade in Rwanda at the ILT20 Cup, during which he locked down the number 4 slot. The former Baby Cricket Cranes captain will experience professional cricket for the first time, coming up against some of the seasoned stars of Zimbabwe Cricket.

Miyagi has been the leader of the Cricket Cranes bowling attack, and over time he has gained some invaluable experience with the senior men’s team. He was part of the 2024 Cricket Cranes team at the T20 World Cup in the West Indies. He had a training stint with the Gulf Giants at the ILT20 last year and a short playing stint with WHS Old Boys in Namibia early this year.

This experience should help both Miyagi and Olipa test their skills against some of the best in the World as well as fine-tune them for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Nigeria.

The Zimbabwe NPL brings together the best players in Zimbabwe, and this year Zimbabwe has given opportunities to players from other African countries to take part in an event that can help them enhance their skills.
