Kim Baker made a name for herself as one of the top models in the fashion industry. She started modeling at 13 years old, giving her a front-row seat to the beauty industry for two decades.

Baker took what she learned from the pages of Lucky and Vogue with her when the cameras stopped flashing. She worked her way to the top of the entertainment industry from behind the camera. She created beauty looks for stars like Tiffany Haddish, Toni Braxton, Angela Yee, and John Legend for public appearances. Her natural approach let their skin glow. Her work wasn’t about trends. It was about emphasizing inherent beauty.

Her experience with the lack of shades behind runway stages and on photoshoots inspired her to be a part of the change she wanted to see in the industry by diving into entrepreneurship. She founded Glamazon Beauty, taking it into major retailers in multiple countries including HSN, Dillard’s, and The Shopping Channel in Canada previously.

“I got into makeup artistry out of frustration,” she told ESSENCE in 2025. “I came along as a model during the time when you really couldn’t find shades for deeper skin tones.”

Breaking Down Beauty

Baker’s skin-first approach to beauty led her to create a company that prioritized demystifying makeup for consumers. She pointed out how skincare instructs shoppers effectively while many makeup brands fail to offer step-by-step instructions with the same level of detail.

“Skincare guides her through a routine, while complexion gives her 50-plus foundation shades, dozens of concealers and powders, and asks her to figure it out,” Baker said in a statement to HelloBeautiful. That gap can lead shoppers searching for tutorials that offer conflicting information. Glamazon Beauty spells it out for them. Not everyone is a beauty guru, and with this product line, they don’t have to be to build a smooth base.

Baker seeks to streamline morning routines and date night looks with direct communication.

“We created Makeup’s First Roadmap™ to change that—a guided complexion system where her foundation shade unlocks her corresponding concealer and pressed powder shades, simplifying complexion for the consumer and at the shelf.

Stepping Towards A New Era of Beauty

Glamazon Beauty is one of the brands included in the inaugural Target Beauty Studio. It will share space with brands including Buff Beauty, Peta Jane Beauty and Sarelly.

Baker remarked on how the retailer approached positioning her brand for the launch of their Target Beauty Studio.

“They’ve been intentional about how our story is told, honoring my vision as a founder, and thinking through how the guest can best experience Glamazon Beauty. They’ve also been thoughtful about ensuring we have shades that represent every shade and consumer shopping the space. I’ve felt supported throughout the entire process, and I’m incredibly grateful for the partnership,” she continues.

Bringing It Back To The Brush Masters

Danessa Myricks became the top seller at Sephora by prioritizing the type of production education Baker is committed to. She introduced techniques to the everyday person that were previously only available to experts. Pat McGrath took over the internet with glass skin masks and glitter lip kits.

Since then, influencer-led brands have risen in the ranks above the artists. These buzzy launches don’t always contain the break-downs needed to make the ingredients sing. The pendulum seems to be swinging back towards traditional makeup artists. They offer insights into product development, thanks to their experience and training. Artists innovate differently. Their creativity stems from unique challenges.

They know what we need to know.
