UPL suspends Man of the Match awards

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) Secretariat has officially placed all ‘Man of the Match’ activities on hold following the expiration of the commercial partnership attached to the property.

In a notice issued to member clubs, league authorities confirmed that the directive takes immediate effect starting with Matchday 2 (Match 15) featuring URA FC against SC Villa, and will remain in force until further notice.

“Following the expiry of the partnership attached to the Man of the Match property in the Uganda Premier League, this activity has been put on hold,” the statement partly reads.

“No Man of the Match activity shall be conducted at any match effective from M15 of Match Day 2,” the statement adds.

Under the temporary freeze, all traditional matchday award protocols, including placard presentations, post-match handshakes, and photo sessions, have been completely banned across all league venues.

The UPL Secretariat instructed all participating clubs to ensure strict compliance with the directive as organisers work behind the scenes to secure new commercial backing for the matchday property.
