Somewhere out there, someone doesn’t know they’re a millionaire

More than R120 million in Lotto and PowerBall prizes is sitting unclaimed across South Africa right now, and one of the biggest names on that list might surprise you.

Somewhere out there, someone doesn’t know they’re a millionaire

There are people walking around South Africa right now, going about their normal Monday, who have no idea they’re sitting on a fortune.

The jackpot that’s still waiting

Sizekhaya has confirmed that more than R120 million across Lotto and PowerBall prizes remains unclaimed. Here are some of the standout amounts still sitting unclaimed:

  • R93 523 480 – PowerBall, 21 August (the jackpot we told you about yesterday)
  • R23 555 348.50 – Lotto, 13 June
  • R4 711 267.90 – Lotto, 8 August

That PowerBall figure is especially fresh: the win we reported on just days ago still hadn’t been claimed as of this week.

Why so many winners don’t even know

According to Sizekhaya Chief Operating Officer Fundi Sithebe, most winners buy their tickets through banking apps, meaning the easiest way to check is simply looking for a notification from your bank.

“You might be going about your day, worrying about petrol prices or planning what to cook for supper, without knowing that you are already a millionaire,” Sithebe said.

What to do if you think it could be you

Players are urged to check their tickets and banking apps, or contact the Sizekhaya Call Centre on 086 102 6000.

Imagine going about your whole week while a fortune sits waiting in your banking app, hey. Check those notifications, like now.

Do you always check your ticket straight after a draw, or are you the type to forget for weeks?
