By Zoila Palma: The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Belize Network of Non-Governmental Organizations (BNN), National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB), and National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) have responded to Government’s invitation to meet with Cabinet regarding ongoing concerns over the proposed acquisition.
In a joint statement, the four social partners welcomed meaningful engagement with Government on the matter.
The social partners, however, reiterated that any consideration for a meeting must include representation from all four organizations, noting that they have been acting collectively on the issue. They said this is necessary to ensure that discussions reflect the positions and concerns raised jointly by the social partners.
The organizations also pointed to outstanding requests for information, including financial statements and independent valuation reports. They said these documents, among other requested information, remain pending and are necessary for them to properly review and assess the matter.
The social partners said they look forward to receiving the requested information and being given a reasonable amount of time to examine it before participating in further discussions with Cabinet.
In addition, the social partners welcomed the Public Utilities Commission’s willingness to engage in further discussions and respectfully called on the Commission to respond to the requests outlined in the social partners’ August 6, 2026 statement.
They further reiterated their commitment to collective action in support of the public interest and said they remain open to meaningful engagement with Government.
