Sheffan Hemmans, Alberto Arreaza remanded over alleged armed burglary and theft of $46,000 pickup

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A member of the Belize Coast Guard and a salesman/manager were remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Tuesday after being charged with aggravated burglary in connection with an alleged armed home invasion in Hattieville.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sheffan Devan Hemmans, a member of the Belize Coast Guard, and 46-year-old Alberto Arreaza, a salesman, manager and farmer from Teakettle Village, appeared before a Magistrate in Court #5, where they were jointly charged with aggravated burglary.

Police allege that on Thursday, August 20, the men, while armed with a firearm, entered a home in the Mile 17 area of Hattieville and stole a pickup truck.

The vehicle is valued at $46,000.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate informed Arreaza and Hemmans that, because the alleged offence involved a firearm, the lower court could not grant them bail at this stage. They were advised that they may apply to the High Court for bail through an attorney if they wish to secure their release before becoming eligible for bail consideration in the Magistrate’s Court.

Both men were subsequently remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Arreaza and Hemmans are due back in court on October 20, 2026, when they are expected to receive disclosure in the case.
