Review: The overall vibe in ‘Vibe’ is indulgence

Vibe, Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial feature after Madgaon Express (2024), is a spy comedy about a mission so complicated that the film’s heroes have trouble understanding it. One of them has fried his brain with too many drugs. The other is a software whiz who’s big on formal wear and proper manners.
Hardik (Kemmu) has fallen for an intern at his workplace. But Kareena (Vanshika Dhir) may not be who she says she is – a problem that lands Hardik and his buddy Bugs (Sparsh Shrivastava) in the crosshairs of a terrorist outfit.
Spy chief Madam H (Preity Zinta) is forced to recruit Hardik to find out what ‘Operation Benaqab’ is all about. The serially incompetent Hardik and the achingly earnest Bugs emerge as unlikely heroes, but only if they (and audiences) can figure out what exactly the country is being saved from.
There are several hilarious scenes of mayhem, resulting from Kemmu’s excellent comic timing and Sparsh Shrivastava’s perfectly calibrated straight man act. While Preity Zinta rarely lets the dimples show as Madam H, her flunkies (Yashpal Sharma and Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua) step up on occasion.
