Patriots bolster Road to BAL squad with Ater Majok

South Sudanese side Patriots Basketball Club have bolstered their squad with experienced centre Ater Majok ahead of their 2026 Road to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) campaign at Hoima City Arena.

Patriots begin their tournament against Burundi’s Urunani on Thursday, with Majok’s addition providing a significant boost as the team targets progression to the Elite 16.

The towering centre brings extensive international experience to the Patriots, having played professionally across several continents and competed at the highest levels of African club basketball.

Majok was part of US Monastir’s championship-winning campaign in the 2022 BAL season, an experience that could prove valuable for Patriots as they seek to navigate a competitive qualifying tournament.

His presence is expected to strengthen the team’s interior play, particularly in rebounding, rim protection and scoring around the basket.

The clash against Urunani offers Patriots their first opportunity to assess their strength in the competition, with the South Sudanese side hoping to start on a positive note.

The Hoima qualifiers feature five teams: hosts Namuwongo Blazers of Uganda, Patriots, Urunani of Burundi, COSPN of Madagascar and Ushindzi Basket of Comoros.

The teams are competing for two places in the Elite 16, scheduled for November in Nairobi, Kenya.

With Majok adding experience and size to their roster, Patriots will hope to make a strong start against Urunani and build momentum in their pursuit of a place in the next round.
