NDP leader vows to promote unity and accountability

Speaking at the rally, Bojang emphasised that opposition parties must rally behind a single candidate to effectively challenge the ruling National People’s Party (NPP). He urged colleagues to put aside rivalry and accept the chosen flagbearer, stressing that unity is the only path to victory.    “We must stand together as one opposition. Whoever is selected as flagbearer should be supported wholeheartedly, because division only strengthens the ruling party,” Bojang declared.   The NDP leader also criticized the government’s handling of healthcare and agriculture, pointing to the decline of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital and reduced groundnut production as evidence of mismanagement. He called for reforms that prioritise citizens’ rights, transparency, and effective leadership.   Bojang, aspiring presidential candidate linked rising crime rates to youth unemployment, promising to create jobs and provide skills training to reduce desperation among young Gambians. He further urged President Adama Barrow to step aside if unable to govern effectively, insisting that accountability must be central to leadership.   His remarks come amid growing frustration over economic hardship, high living costs, and allegations of misuse of state institutions. Bojang himself was recently involved in a confrontation with immigration officers, which he described as politically motivated intimidation.   As the election approaches, Bojang’s message of unity and accountability resonates with many Gambians who are eager for change. Whether opposition parties can overcome historical divisions and form a united front remains to be seen.
