By Zoila Palma: On July 18, 2026, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology held the first of its kind STEAM Festival in San Ignacio, Cayo.
The event showcased the potential of the Women in 4iR Component of the Skills for the Future Program as students presented their innovative solutions to community challenges using fundamental lessons in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
The Ministry says that this initiative creates targeted opportunities for young women to develop the critical knowledge, confidence, and technical skills necessary to thrive in the rapidly evolving landscape of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4iR).
Supported by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and developed in collaboration with the Education Development Center (EDC), the program aims to reach approximately 1,000 primary and secondary female students across Belize, actively encouraging them to pursue higher studies and sustainable career paths in STEAM.
