Man sought over social media video now charged

A 36-year-old man, who had been sought by police in connection with a series of alleged threats made in a video circulating on social media, has been arrested and charged with malicious communication.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) said Clent Richardson, a Saint Lucian who was deported from the United States in March 2023, was arrested on Saturday, September 19, following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the videos. 

He was subsequently charged on Monday, September 21, under the Computer Misuse Act with the offence of malicious communication.

Richardson appeared before the First District Court on Tuesday and was granted $500 cash bail.

As part of his bail conditions, Richardson is prohibited from posting anything on social media expressing frustration. He must also report to Central Police Station every Tuesday before 6 p.m.

The matter has been adjourned to November 5, 2026.

The RSLPF is reminding the public that content posted on social media can have legal consequences.

The force said that while individuals have the right to express themselves, they must use electronic devices and online platforms responsibly and within the law.

Police are also urging members of the public to exercise caution before recording, posting, forwarding or sharing content, particularly material that may be threatening, menacing, misleading or intended to cause distress or alarm.
