The Momentum Metropolitan Limited Trust, in partnership with Basecamp Business Incubator, has launched a new entrepreneurship programme aimed at helping Namibian business owners build stronger and more sustainable companies.
The programme, called Metropolitan Founders Ignite, was launched in Windhoek last week.
It is designed to equip entrepreneurs with practical business skills, mentorship and support to prepare them for growth and investment opportunities.
Speaking at the launch, Momentum Metropolitan Namibia Group executive for marketing and communications Denille Roostee said the initiative is built on the belief that Namibia already has talented entrepreneurs, who only need the right support to succeed.
“When we named this programme Founders Ignite, the word ignite was intentional. We believe Namibia does not lack potential, ideas or ambition. Sometimes, all those potential needs is a spark – access to opportunity, knowledge, networks and people willing to back what is possible,” she said.
Roostee said supporting entrepreneurs goes beyond helping individual businesses.
“Founders Ignite is about recognising what already exists within our entrepreneurs and creating the conditions for it to grow. When we ignite an entrepreneur, we can ignite a business, create livelihoods, strengthen families and ultimately contribute to communities and an economy that can thrive,” she added.
The programme is being delivered together with Basecamp Business Incubator, which has experience in business incubation and supporting start-up companies.
Basecamp director Jesaya Hano-Oshike said entrepreneurs need more than short-term support to succeed.
She said the programme will provide practical guidance as founders work through the challenges of running and expanding their businesses.
Selected entrepreneurs will take part in a structured development programme, which includes mentorship, business training and learning opportunities.
Participants will also receive support to improve areas such as their value proposition, customer understanding, operations, financial sustainability and long-term business growth.
The launch also featured business coach and Simpli Business Advisory managing consultant Mekupi Kambatuku, who shared lessons from her recently released book, ‘From Hustle to Enterprise: The Namibian SME Playbook for Starting, Scaling & Building a Profitable Business’. Kambatuku encouraged entrepreneurs to move beyond simply running businesses from day to day and instead focus on building well-structured enterprises that can grow and remain profitable over the long term. Applications for the first Founders Ignite intake officially opened during the launch. Entrepreneurs from across Namibia who meet the programme’s requirements are invited to apply.
Momentum Metropolitan and Basecamp said the initiative forms part of their broader efforts to strengthen Namibia’s entrepreneurship ecosystem by giving founders access to the knowledge, mentorship and support needed to build businesses that can create jobs and contribute to the country’s economy.
