Kylian Mbappé Leaves Nike To Help On Running Break Into Soccer
The French soccer star ended his partnership with the shoe giant that started when he was 9-years-old.

As if Nike doesn’t have enough problems, one of the biggest sportsmen in the world has left the fold.
French soccer star Kylian Mbappé, who has had a deal with Nike since he was a 9-year-old phenom, is moving on. He’ll join Swiss apparel brand On, which already has Grand Slam tennis champion Roger Federer in the fold as a shareholder.
The company was initially focused on running and tennis shoes but made its entry into soccer recently, announcing the legendary Thierry Henry as director of football. On’s first soccer boot, the Lightspray Prototype, will be available to the public next year, and then will be part of team kits.
Mbappé will become a shareholder in the company and will be a brand ambassador as well.
“From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game,” Mbappé said in a statement. “I want to bring my experience and perspective into what we create, push what’s possible through innovation, and always stay true to the joy of football. We have a shared dream, and this is only the beginning.”
Mbappè also posted to On’s social media account, saying the partnership represented a chance for evolution for him and his career.
“Dream On, Football. I still dream of playing football. That might surprise you, coming from someone who plays it for a living,” he posted. “But it’s true. I still dream of playing with my friends. Playing until sunset. Until dinner. Playing just because it was a game, long before it could become a career.
He added, “I have followed this dream for as long as I can remember. Once again, it has led me to one of the biggest changes in my life. Now, I find myself surrounded by innovators who dream of the same things I do.
This is yet another blow for Nike, once the dominant global sneaker and apparel company that is now struggling to maintain its market share.
Spanish star Lamine Yamal left Nike for adidas two years ago.
Mbappé, the 27-year-old forward for Real Madrid, was discovered as a youth while growing up in a Paris suburb. He entered a prestigious soccer academy and signed a deal with Nike when he was 9. At 19, he became only the second teen in football history to score a goal in the World Cup when he did so in 2018.
Among the trophies he’s won are two FIFA World Cup Golden Boots – one in 2022 and another this year – awarded to the tournament’s leading scorer.
Mbappé previously wore the Mercurial boots for Nike.
“Kylian’s journey with Nike began when he was nine years old,” Nike said in a statement. “Over nearly two decades, we’ve shared moments that shaped the game, and he has been an important part of Nike Football. We are proud of what we achieved together on and off the pitch.”
