Alfred, who had clocked 10.83 seconds behind Jefferson-Wooden’s 10.78 at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland on August 23, turned the rematch into a dramatic reversal. She exploded from the blocks, held her form under pressure, and crossed the line first in the final qualifying race before the pair meet again at the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Finals in Brussels, Belgium, on September 4 and 5.

The win carries extra weight: Jefferson-Wooden had gone unbeaten in the event for more than two years and entered Zurich as the widely backed favourite. Alfred’s breakthrough now gives her fresh momentum heading into both the Diamond League Finals and the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, from September 11 to 13.

Alfred’s previous personal best was 10.72 seconds, the time she ran to capture Olympic gold in Paris in 2024. Her latest mark not only improves that benchmark but also underlines her status as one of the defining names in women’s sprinting ahead of a decisive September stretch.
