‘In A Tight Spot’: Woman gets 4 months in jail after police find crack pipe stashed in her butt crack

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police officers found themselves in a sticky situation, and a Belize City woman found herself in a tight spot after hiding a crack pipe in the crack of her buttocks when officers approached her. And because she has multiple prior convictions, she has been sentenced to four months in prison.

Leiyana Louise Whylie, 30, a cleaner of Tigris Street, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where she pleaded guilty to possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.

Police say Whylie was busted at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, while officers were conducting mobile patrols on Tigris Street.

According to police, an officer saw Whylie sitting in a chair and observed her push something behind her back as officers approached.

During a subsequent search for illegal drugs, firearms and ammunition, the officer reportedly felt a hard object in the rear portion of Whylie’s underwear. Further checks revealed a silver metal crack pipe lodged in the crack of her buttocks, police say.

Whylie pleaded guilty and asked the court to impose a fine.

In mitigation, she told the court, “I know dah wah charge but I recently got a job. Everyday I try do better than before.”

The Magistrate, however, noted Whylie’s previous drug-related convictions, including prior convictions involving crack pipes, and said another non-custodial sentence would not be appropriate.

She was sentenced to three months in prison for the latest offence.

Whylie also had an outstanding $805 fine dating back to July 25, 2024, which carried a default sentence of four months in prison. Both sentences were ordered to run concurrently, meaning she will serve a total of four months at the Belize Central Prison.

Whylie also indicated that she intends to enroll in a drug rehabilitation programme while incarcerated.
