The scheduled resumption of the abandoned Premier Soccer League (PSL) match between Hardrock FC and Dynamos on Thursday has been thrown into doubt after Hardrock FC lodged an appeal against the league’s ruling.
The PSL had ordered that the remaining 14 minutes of the fixture be played behind closed doors at Baobab Stadium on Thursday following the abandonment of the original match in May.
However, Hardrock have formally challenged the decision, creating uncertainty over whether the resumption will proceed as scheduled.
The appeal means the league will first have to determine the matter before any further action is taken, leaving Thursday’s fixture hanging in the balance.
The PSL is yet to announce whether the appeal will affect the scheduled resumption or whether the match will go ahead as initially planned.
The original fixture was abandoned in the 76th minute with the score tied at 1-1 after Dynamos supporters invaded the pitch in protest over a refereeing decision.
Following disciplinary hearings, the PSL fined Hardrock FC US$10,000 for failing to provide adequate security. Of that amount, US$2,000 was suspended on condition the club is not convicted of a similar offence during the stipulated period.
Dynamos were also fined US$10,000 after their supporters invaded the pitch and damaged the perimeter fence.
Hardrock FC chief executive officer Kudzanayi Hove was suspended from all football-related activities for six months and fined US$5,000 after being found guilty of assaulting a Dynamos supporter during the crowd disturbances.
The PSL has not indicated when it will hear Hardrock’s appeal or whether the disciplinary process will delay the completion of the match.
