Cyclists from across Belize compete in annual BTB September criterium

By Zoila Palma:  Central American Boulevard came alive on Sunday, September 13, as cyclists from across Belize competed in the 2026 annual Belize Tourism Board (BTB) September Criterium.

The event featured riders ranging from young cyclists to seasoned competitors and Belize’s elite racers.

In the Open Elite 35-lap race, Derrick Chavarria of the China Meitan Cycling Team captured first place, followed by Jaylen Briceño and Jyven Gonzalez, both of L39ion of Los Angeles, in second and third. Dylan Levy, Ahmaad Cherrington and Kenyon Stanford of Gflow Cycling Team rounded out the top six.

Byron Pope of A. Mahler Digi Alliance Cycling Team dominated the Masters division, taking first place ahead of teammate Henry Moreira, while Kent Bob Gabourel of SPD Cycling Team secured third. In the Junior 20-lap race, Gflow Cycling Team riders Devyn Major and Ahmaad Cherrington finished first and second, while Stephan Pelayo of Misfits Cycling Team placed third.

In the women’s 15-lap race, Kedisha Francis of Imani’s Cycling Team claimed the top spot, with Patricia Chavarria of Chavarria Cycling Team finishing second and unattached rider Chelsey Gillett taking third. Other category winners included Roque Matus in Masters 50+, Barney Brown in Masters 60+, Henry Moreira in Club Riders ages 21–49, and Ahmaad Cherrington in Male Youth.

The competition also highlighted the next generation of Belizean cyclists, with Andre Enriquez winning the High School Male category and Abriel Galindo of Stann Creek Ecumenical taking the High School Female title.

Among the younger riders, Grayson Chavarria of Santa Elena Primary School won the 6–8 age group, while Raheem Garbutt, Kelvin Augustin and Patrick Joseph topped the 9–10, 11–12 and 13–15 categories, respectively.

The Belize Tourism Board congratulated all cyclists who participated and thanked the Cycling Federation of Belize, Belize City Council, M&M Engineering, sponsors, officials, volunteers, families and supporters for helping make the 2026 September Criterium possible.
