Chadwick Boseman’s Widow Fires Back At His Brothers Over Estate Fight
Taylor Simone Ledward says she has properly handled the late actor’s estate and accuses his brothers of using the lawsuit to smear her in the press.

Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, is fighting back against the late actor’s brothers, who are challenging her handling of his estate.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six, Ledward rejected allegations from Boseman’s older brothers, Derrick and Kevin, calling their legal effort to remove her as administrator a “public-relations stunt” designed to smear her in the tabloid press.
The brothers filed a lawsuit in July on behalf of their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, alleging Ledward failed to properly distribute Boseman’s estate. Boseman died without a will in 2020 at age 43, leaving Ledward with 50% of the estate and his parents with the remaining half.
Ledward says she has distributed virtually all of the estate’s assets, with one exception: a roughly $300,000 IRA that she says remains blocked because of legal action the brothers initiated.
Her attorneys also say Ledward went beyond her legal obligations, including voluntarily giving more than $300,000 of her own money to Derrick’s four children. She also distributed $150,000 in SAG-AFTRA residuals to Derrick and Kevin at their parents’ request.
“No Estate asset has been lost, wasted, or mismanaged,” Ledward’s response states, arguing that she has administered the estate transparently and in consultation with the family.
The documents also highlight Ledward’s efforts to preserve Boseman’s legacy, including establishing the Chadwick Boseman Foundation for the Arts, licensing his play “Deep Azure” at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, and securing a documentary deal.
The filing also reveals that Boseman and Ledward married on Aug. 21, 2020, just six days before his death. Derrick Boseman officiated the wedding.
Ledward’s attorneys urged the court to reject what they called a “baseless attack.” An attorney for Derrick and Kevin has been contacted for comment.
