Airtel Zambia and UNICEF Deepen Partnership to Bridge Zambia’s Digital Divide

Airtel Zambia  has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding digital access to education through its partnership with UNICEF,  with senior executives visiting one of the schools benefiting from the initiative to assess its impact on learners.

The visit saw Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer Sunil Taldar and Airtel Zambia Managing Director Hussam Baday tour St. Monica’s School in Matero, one of 300 schools connected under the Airtel-UNICEF partnership aimed at improving digital connectivity for learners across Zambia.

During the visit, the executives engaged with students and observed how internet connectivity is enhancing access to digital educational resources and creating new learning opportunities in classrooms.

The event was attended by Yvonne Chulu, Director of Secondary Education at Zambia’s Ministry of Education, who praised Airtel for supporting the government’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and expand access to digital learning for students across the country.

UNICEF Country Representative Dr. Saja Farooq Abdullah also reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to the partnership, highlighting the shared goal of providing equitable access to quality education through digital connectivity.

According to Airtel Zambia, the initiative has already connected 300 schools, providing internet access to more than 292,000 learners. The company said it now aims to expand the programme to 1,000 schools within the next year, further supporting digital inclusion and helping equip Zambia’s next generation with the digital tools needed for learning and future opportunities.

Airtel Zambia said the partnership demonstrates how collaboration between the private sector, government and development partners can accelerate digital transformation in education and deliver lasting social impact.
