The Government of Ghana and the Government of the Republic of Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the second phase of the Digital STEM Education Project, with South Korea committing US$28 million to strengthen digital science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education across Ghana.
The six-year initiative, which will run from 2026 to 2032, will expand digital STEM interventions to the Central, Eastern, Ashanti and Northern regions. It will also support the construction of the Accra STEM Park, strengthen the Northern STEM Resource Centre, and accelerate the integration of digital technologies into STEM education nationwide.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, described education as the foundation of national development, saying the project would equip learners with critical digital skills through the introduction of robotics, coding, electronics and artificial intelligence at the basic education level.
Iddrisu also announced that the Ministry of Education will roll out a revised curriculum for kindergarten through junior high school before September 30, with digital education forming a central component of the new curriculum.
The minister expressed appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for their continued support to Ghana’s education sector. He noted that the partnership would play a key role in advancing the country’s efforts to prepare young learners for an increasingly digital economy.
The Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Park Kyongsig, and KOICA Country Director, Dong Hyun Lee, reaffirmed their commitment to working with Ghana to ensure the successful implementation of the second phase of the Digital STEM Education Project and to further promote digital STEM education for Ghanaian students.
