Ramaphosa booked off as Presidency confirms ill health

Johannesburg – President Cyril Ramaphosa has been booked off from public engagements after falling ill following his return from the BRICS Summit in India.

The Presidency said on Wednesday that Ramaphosa, who returned to South Africa on Monday, had been advised by his medical team to rest and recover.

“Due to ill health, President Ramaphosa is currently booked off from public engagements,” the Presidency said.

“President Ramaphosa, who returned from the BRICS Summit in India on Monday, has been advised by his medical team to rest and recover.”

The Presidency did not disclose details about the nature of Ramaphosa’s illness.

Where possible, the President has asked Cabinet ministers to represent him at scheduled public engagements while he recuperates.

The latest development comes shortly after Ramaphosa attended the BRICS Summit in India, where South Africa participated in discussions with leaders from member states on issues including trade, development and global governance.
