Lights, Camera, Access is a free four-week course teaching teens camera work, editing, and safe social media use, and registration opens today.
High school students with a story to tell now have a free way to learn how to tell it on camera. LA County Library is opening registration for Lights, Camera, Access, a four week content creation course built for teens in grades 9 through 12.
Led by a working industry professional, the course puts students behind professional gear rather than in front of a lecture. Participants learn camera operation, microphone technique, audio and video editing, and script and story development, along with guidance on using social media safely and responsibly. The library supplies everything needed for class, including digital cameras, GoPros, tripods, gimbals, podcast microphones, headphones, and laptops for editing.
Where and when
Classes begin in mid-October and run across six library locations, each meeting once a week for four sessions.
La Crescenta Library holds its sessions on Tuesdays, October 13 and 20 and November 10 and 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Culver City Julian Dixon Library meets on Tuesdays, October 27 and November 3, 10, and 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Gardena Mayme Dear Library runs Wednesdays, October 21 and 28 and November 4 and 18, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Agoura Hills Library meets Fridays, October 16, 23, and 30 and November 6, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Rowland Heights Library holds classes Fridays, October 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Norwalk Library meets Saturdays, October 17, 24, and 31 and November 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
How to register
Registration opened September 16, 2026, and spots are filled on a first come, first-served basis. Submitting the form does not guarantee a seat, since space is extremely limited and library staff will follow up to confirm enrollment. Families can register through the online form and find full location details on the library’s Lights, Camera, Access page.
