NAACP Urges Supreme Court to Reject Trump Mail-Ballot Rules

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The NAACP is asking the Supreme Court to reject the Trump administration’s emergency request to impose new mail-ballot requirements just weeks before the November midterms.

The proposed U.S. Postal Service rules would require states to submit lists of mail-ballot voters and place unique barcodes on ballot envelopes.

Ballots that do not comply with the new requirements could be denied delivery.

In a brief filed Wednesday, the NAACP argued the last-minute system could disproportionately harm Black voters, seniors, people with disabilities and others who rely on voting by mail.

NAACP General Counsel Kristen Clarke called the effort unconstitutional and warned it could weaponize the Postal Service and lead to mass disenfranchisement.

On Thursday, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals left the rules blocked, declining to put a lower court injunction on hold. The Supreme Court is still considering the administration’s emergency request.
