The alternative soul artist has landed on their second Spotify GLOW South Africa cover following the release of their latest single — a contemporary Zulu love song about boundaries, desire and the difficult choices that come with building a relationship.
“Buyisa” — meaning “bring back” or “return” is an intimate reflection on the moment when someone else’s boundaries make you confront who you are. Rather than presenting love as an idealistic romance, “Buyisa” sits in the tension between wanting someone and understanding that you are not entitled to reciprocity. The song takes the perspective of the person on the other side of that realisation, someone who has drawn a line and is asking to be met differently.
Sonically, “Buyisa” draws from contemporary R&B and Afro-Soul, anchored by rich vocal harmonies, an organic rhythm section and an infectious groove. Sung primarily in isiZulu, the song moves naturally between intimacy, humour and confrontation, with the refrain “Buyisa” becoming both a plea and a demand.
