Madagascar hits Kenya with another travel ban over Ebola

If years were ships, then 2026 would have been the Titanic for Kenya.

Madagascar has just imposed a strict travel ban against Kenya, due to Ebola outbreak, affecting the tourism status of this popular East African Country.

“Due to public health concerns, precisely the Ebola Virus, please be advised that Madagascar authorities have implemented an urgent entry restriction for travelers from Kenya,” reads a statement which was made available to The Tanzania Times.

As it happens, Madagascar has added the Republic of Kenya to the list of three countries subject to precautionary measures related to Ebola virus disease.

The country has released an official circular which is supposed to issue more details regarding the steps taken.

Other countries that have fallen under Madagascar’s travel ban so far, include the republic of Uganda, the Republic of South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the latest entry, Kenya.

On the other hand, as per the directives received from the Ministry of Health (MOH), in the Kingdom of Bahrain, travelers from Kenya will now also be compelled to undergo various test measures before being allowed into the country.

“Please be informed that, effective immediately, all passengers travelling from Nairobi (NBO) Kenya to Bahrain, are required to comply with mandatory health measures,” a travel advisory warns.

All passengers traveling from Kenya must now complete a special Medical Declaration Form prior to their departure from Nairobi.

The health declaration form can be completed using the attached document or electronically through the Health Declaration link or the QR code provided in the attached notice.

Madagascar and Bahrain are now the two additional countries that have issued travel restrictions against passengers from Kenya.

Previously Saudi Arabia and Kuwait had taken similar steps against travelers from Kenya, following reports of Ebola infections there.

Kenya has reported 10 Ebola cases so far, including two deaths, though the country’s Ministry of Health has just released an official statement that the situation is now under control and there should be no reason for alarm.

Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda are so far the only African countries, outside the DR Congo that have recorded Ebola cases.

The outbreak was first reported in May 2026 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where the number of victims has exceeded 10,000 patients with the disease killing more than 5000 of them.

But despite the concern over Kenya, other nationals are rushing into the country to seek refuge and shelter.

It is being reported that more than 10,000 Ethiopians have fled into Kenya following deadly clashes in the border town of Moyale.

Until now a number of displaced Ethiopian families are still seeking safety in Kenya, with temporary shelter and humanitarian assistance being organized around the Moyale town.
