Kenya Regulator Strengthens Spectrum Management Capacity With Radio Monitoring Training

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA)  has completed specialised training for its technical officers on the operation and utilisation of its Spectrum Monitoring Sub-System (SMS), as the regulator moves to strengthen technical capacity for spectrum management.

The training was conducted as part of the contractual requirements under the Authority’s maintenance contract for the Spectrum Monitoring Sub-System across its fixed and mobile monitoring stations. The contract was awarded to Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG (R&S) in 2025.

According to the CA, the training is designed to enhance officers’ ability to effectively operate and utilise the Radio Monitoring System for spectrum monitoring, measurement and analysis.

It also focused on strengthening the technical team’s capacity to detect and resolve radio-frequency interference and effectively use direction-finding capabilities.

The Authority said the training has equipped its technical officers and staff with skills needed to support more efficient spectrum management and promote the effective use of Kenya’s radio-frequency spectrum.

The capacity-building initiative comes as regulators face growing demands to efficiently monitor and manage increasingly complex radio-frequency environments and ensure that spectrum resources are used effectively.
