By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Julius Espat no longer heads the ministry responsible for the police, and there is still no official word on what comes next for him.
Following Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Home Affairs was renamed the Ministry of National Security and handed to Cayo North Area Representative Michel Chebat.
Espat had taken over responsibility for Home Affairs after Oscar Mira was sidelined in the wake of the so called “Mira Millions” scandal.
Just last week, Prime Minister John Briceño told the media that his decision on the substantive police portfolio would go to Cabinet first. That decision has now been made, and it did not go to Espat.
Government has not yet said whether Espat will receive a new portfolio or what his role in Cabinet will be going forward.
