Morocco’s leading telecommunications operator, inwi, has partnered with Huawei to commercially deploy a dual-band 1.8 GHz + 2.1 GHz 8T8R solution across Morocco’s major transportation corridors, including high-speed railway lines and highways, in a move aimed at strengthening mobile network coverage and improving connectivity for travelers.
The deployment leverages Huawei’s HyperBeamforming technology, which delivers a 13 dB coverage gain compared to legacy 2T2R networks. According to the companies, the solution extends network coverage by nearly one kilometre, improves average downlink user-perceived throughput by 83%, and increases the number of active users by 3.2 times, helping deliver a more reliable and seamless mobile experience along key transport routes.
The rollout forms part of inwi’s broader strategy to enhance network performance across Morocco’s strategic mobility corridors. By introducing targeted network upgrades in high-traffic areas, the operator aims to ensure continuous coverage, improve service quality for customers on the move, and strengthen its position as a provider of premium digital services nationwide.
Developed jointly by inwi and Huawei, the dual-band 8T8R solution combines high-gain Hertz antennas with HyperBeamforming technology to generate more precise and concentrated narrow beams. This reduces signal interference while expanding single-site coverage by approximately 30%. The enhanced coverage also eliminates the need for additional physical sites, addressing coverage gaps caused by long distances between base stations, improving downlink speeds, and lowering overall network deployment costs.
“The companies said the deployment will also support Morocco’s wider digital transformation ambitions by providing more efficient and cost-effective mobile infrastructure capable of meeting growing connectivity demands.”
– Jamel Sakka, Deputy CTO, inwi
