FIRs filed against three Gujarat-based political parties for defrauding government of Rs 560 crore
These outfits had collectively received bogus donations of nearly Rs 1,870 crore, which they routed back to the donors after deducting a commission.

The Gujarat Police has registered cases against three Gujarat-based registered unrecognised political parties and persons linked to them, reported The Indian Express on Sunday.
The crime branch registered the first information reports on Friday based on complaints by the Income Tax Department, which alleged that the government had suffered losses of Rs 560 crore due to bogus donations of nearly Rs 1,870 crore received by the three parties.
Registered Unrecognised Political Parties are political groups registered with the Election Commission that have not met the vote-share or seat criteria required to be recognised as state or national parties.
Earlier this month, BBC News Hindi reported that donations made to six such parties were more than those made to national parties, except the Bharatiya Janata Party, in the financial year 2023-’24.
The parties were the Aam Janmat Party, Bharatiya National Janata Dal, Garib Kalyan Party, New India United Party, Satyawadi Rakshak Party and the Swatantrata Abhivyakti Party.
The FIR on Friday has named Bharatiya National Janata Dal, Swatantrata Abhivyakti Party and Garib Kalyan Party, reported The Indian Express. Additionally, four persons linked to the Bharatiya National Janata Dal, three persons associated with the Swatantrata Abhivyakti Party and eight persons linked to the Garib Kalyan Party have also been booked.
