Diddy Fires Back After Lawyers Drop Him Over Alleged Unpaid Legal Bills

Diddy’s in the midst of serving a 50-month sentence that’s routinely getting shortened, after avoiding decades in prison when he was found not guilty on more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
But it appears that with a legal team that talented and so engulfed in those charges, some of his other legal matters have fallen by the wayside.
Lawyer Michael Tremonte, a partner at Sher Tremonte LLP, is responsible for Diddy’s $100 million defamation lawsuit. Tremonte says the defamed Hip-Hop mogul “has not paid a substantial balance of attorney’s fees, costs, and expenses,” so the firm is dropping him as a client.
According to NBC News, the declaration requesting withdrawal was filed earlier this week in the Southern District of New York and claims Diddy is six months behind on payments for his representation, which has resulted in “a total breakdown in cooperation and communication between Mr. Combs and the Firm.”
Despite being behind bars at Fort Dix FCI with plenty of free time to resolve the issue, the filing says he has “declined to make himself available for timely, substantive, and direct communications about his cases for over four months.”
Diddy’s side is pushing a very different narrative, claiming he made the decision to fire Tremonte as his legal representation.
“I made the decision to switch lawyers because I won’t let anyone take advantage of me by overcharging me and running up bills that were never approved,” he said through his spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer. “This is strictly a business matter, and any talk about unpaid fees is just part of our dispute over those unapproved charges.”
At the center of the dispute is the $100 million defamation suit that Diddy filed against Courtney Burgess, Ariel Mitchell, and NewsNation’s parent company, Nexstar Media, Inc for peddling false claims that Burgess possesses flash drives that show Diddy engaging in sexual activity with celebrities and minors.
