City of Windhoek rejects ‘baseless’ recruitment claims about parks chief ‘Wakka’

The City of Windhoek has dismissed allegations on social media accusing its parks manager, Ukazuvaka Kazombiaze, popularly known as Wakka, of being unqualified and appointed through nepotism.

The city describes the claims as false, malicious and intended to damage the institution’s reputation.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the municipality says recruitment and management processes are conducted transparently and in line with labour laws and municipal policies.

“We reject allegations of tribalism and nepotism as ‘baseless and divisive’, “ the statement reads.

While acknowledging ongoing service delivery challenges it insists these are being addressed through continuous intervention.

The city urges residents to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information, instead of “unfounded narratives” shared on social media.

The response follows a Facebook post by the ‘Be Thinking-Namibia’ page targeting Kazombiaze, alleging he is incompetent and unfit for the position.

The post further claims the former parks manager has been forced out of office, has successfully challenged the decision in the Labour Court, but has not been reinstated, resulting in the municipality allegedly paying salaries to both the former manager and Kazombiaze.

It alleges that after Kazombiaze failed to qualify for the advertised position, the city readvertised the post and amended the minimum requirements by removing horticulture qualifications and replacing them with sport-related qualifications to suit his profile.

The post claims Kazombiaze’s appointment has contributed to deteriorating parks, non-functional facilities, poor management and the awarding of work to contractors allegedly linked to him.
