By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Benque House of Culture has marked 25 years of cultural and historical work in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
The milestone was celebrated on September 7, 2026, with the National Institute of Culture and History recognizing the institution’s contribution to preserving and promoting Belizean culture.
NICH President Albert Vaughan attended the celebration, which also highlighted the important role of the Community of Artists for Cultural and Historical Endeavours, known as CACHE.
CACHE was organized in January 1999 and is recognized as the founding organization whose partnership helped nurture Benque Viejo del Carmen’s cultural and historical identity.
To mark the 25th anniversary and reflect this year’s theme, “Rooted in Culture,” 25 trees were planted in collaboration with the Forestry Department’s Greening Belize Initiative, stakeholders and members of the local community.
Organizers said the tree planting symbolizes the deep cultural roots of the community and a shared commitment to protecting Belizean culture and history for future generations.
The anniversary celebration served as both a look back at 25 years of work and a commitment to continued cultural growth in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
