Bacon Celebrates National Entrepreneurship Month

All November, Bacon is spotlighting the women building companies on their own terms and the entrepreneurs behind the brands women love.

National Entrepreneurship Month honors the moment most founders never forget, the night an idea stopped being a daydream and became a plan. For some of us, that moment came at the kitchen table after everyone else was asleep. For others, it arrived after a layoff, a promotion that went to someone else, or the quiet realization that a paycheck would never match what our ideas were worth. However it started, what came next usually looked the same. We built anyway, with our own savings, a handful of loyal customers and a group chat full of women cheering us on.

Once you start looking, those beginnings are everywhere. They are in the curl cream on the bathroom shelf, the bottle we open at Sunday dinner, the planner in our tote and the app we tap to book our glam. Behind every one of those products is someone who took the risk and kept going while the numbers took their time to catch up. This November, Bacon is giving those founders the spotlight they have earned.

Welcome to National Entrepreneurship Month

National Entrepreneurship Month was started by entrepreneurs themselves. In 2010, a group of founders petitioned for a national observance, and in 2011 President Barack Obama proclaimed November as the month to recognize the people creating jobs and new ideas across the country. National Entrepreneurs’ Day followed, and it is now celebrated on the third Tuesday of November, which lands on November 17 this year.

The celebration stretches far beyond the United States. Global Entrepreneurship Week, organized by the Global Entrepreneurship Network, runs November 16 through 22, 2026, right in the middle of National Entrepreneurship Month, and brings about 10 million people in 200 countries and territories together for events, competitions and workshops. Put it all together, and November has become the season when founders everywhere get their flowers, and when the rest of us remember how much of daily life was shaped by someone who decided to start.

Meet the Entrepreneurs Behind the Brands Women Love

Throughout National Entrepreneurship Month, Bacon will introduce these entrepreneurs one by one. Many are women building companies on their own terms, and others are founders, women and men alike, behind the brands women buy, use and recommend to their friends, from what we pour at dinner to what we keep on our vanities. Each feature goes inside the business they built, the moves that got them here and what they are working on next, across beauty, food and beverage, fashion, wellness, entertainment and services.

The series opens with Tonya Tee, founder of Writing Waves, the Los Angeles County writing and editing boutique she launched on March 1, 2020, just weeks before California’s stay-at-home order. Six years later, she is answering the AI boom with research, empathy and what she calls her Empathetic Red Pen, and she has expanded into script proofreading for screenwriters. Her story sets the tone for the month ahead, and every founder who follows has something to teach about building with intention, whether the lesson is pricing, partnerships, hiring or staying the course.

Celebrating the Women Who Build

For our community, this month carries extra weight. Black women have long been among the most determined founders in the country, often building with less outside funding, fewer warm introductions and more to prove. Many of the brands we love were started by women who made a way with what they had, then grew those companies into names with loyal customers, retail placements and teams of their own.

That progress is showing up in big ways. Black Girl Ventures recently marked 10 years and more than 550 businesses funded, and four Black women landed on Forbes’ 2026 ranking of America’s richest self-made women. Each of those wins opens a door for the next founder coming up behind them, and that is exactly the work Bacon was built to celebrate.

Fun Ways to Celebrate All Month

Celebrating National Entrepreneurship Month can be as simple as being intentional with your spending. Holiday shopping is right around the corner and Small Business Saturday lands on November 28, so buy from the founders you believe in and choose their products when you are gifting. A thoughtful review, a share on social media or a recommendation to a friend costs nothing and can mean real growth for a small business. If a founder you follow is hosting a pop-up, a class or a launch event this month, show up and bring someone with you.

For the founders reading this, take a moment to celebrate how far you have come. Look back at what the business looked like a year ago, honor the wins nobody else saw and connect with other entrepreneurs who understand the work. Global Entrepreneurship Week is a great time to find local events, meet potential partners and learn from people who are a few steps ahead, so make this National Entrepreneurship Month the one where you show up for yourself too.
